One of oldest and best friends lives in Vegas and she often invites me to concerts, but as someone who lives under a rock I rarely know who’s on tour. So I gave her the specs: find me a show at a small venue where I’ll know all the music, and she delivered with tickets to the Def Leppard residency. A lot has changed since seeing them in the 90s but it was still the same lineup and they sounded great. It was an old school rock concert, all lights and lasers, with some unexpected moments — Joe Elliott did a couple of numbers out in the audience, plus a surprisingly great cover of Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus and a foot-pedal cam that shows how their one-armed drummer, Rick Allen, gets the job done. A good way to celebrate my birthday.
